Toth and who now for the most part are Russianized in chant and liturgy with no impetus to restore their usage, the latinized Ruthenian Catholics preserved their indigenous chant. There are other -izations besides the latin form that take their toll; and the Byzantine Catholic's are now mandated and (sometimes only formally) committed to restore their proper usages. The impetus at least is there.

In the other thread, I mentioned that it seemed somewhat ironic to me that when the Ruthenian BCC was most "latinized", it was probably at is apogee of membership and vitality. So it doesn't follow to me, as seems to being put forth in that thread, that "de-latinization" as such is always a good thing. My other feeling is that if it is a clerical movement, and not a movement of the people, it is in great danger of ending poorly.

You're other point is absolutely correct. The pressure to Russify was just as great as the pressure to Latinize. What is perhaps most ironic now, is if you wanted to experience the most traditional Rusyn Greek Catholic liturgy (complete with latinizations), you might have to go to Johnstown and not Pittsburgh.

See my post in Ruthenian latinizations.

And sometimes having the pressure imposed from the top, mandated, too.

Yes, Johnstown has been fondly referred to as the Byzantine-Amish. Presumably we have a more authentic, common, standard in the Ruthenian Recension which is why there is all the fuss about the BCC's Revised Divine Liturgy (RDL).
