Thanos,

Welcome to the forum. Our friend and brother, Marduk, initially came here back when he was still a Coptic Orthodox and we briefly had a Coptic Orthodox monk who posted here. But, we've not had an active Coptic Orthodox poster for a long while.

In fact, we don't have a lot of active members from any of the Churches in the Oriental Communion - Orthodox or Catholic, although we'd most certainly welcome their presence and participation. There are several, now inactive, members who are very much missed.

I hope you'll find this forum to be an interesting and worthwhile place to converse. The membership is pretty diverse, chiefly Eastern Catholics and Orthodox, as well as some Latin Catholics who have an abiding love of and interest in the Eastern and Oriental Churches, and a few Protestant members who feel likewise.

Many years,

Neil

Shawn, my brother,

Thanos can't yet receive or send PMs, as we restrict new members from that function for a brief period, until we are assured that they're 'legitimate' and not spammers, etc.

Many thanks Neil for your kind welcome,

God bless this site and your Church!

I'll be really honest with you up front, before you find out yourself: I'm no theologian.

Although I've studied theology, and soteriology, I cannot claim to be a theologian nor representative of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

But for us, our Christology is clear, and it is summarised succinctly in the Holy Liturgy which I often enjoy and partake of.

There are definately much better read persons than me, yet I fear that because I'm the only OO member here, I might be seen as a reference point for theological comparative theological discussions between us, but I am far from qualified for that role.

Most Coptic Christians send their children to catholic schools - whether in Egypt, or the Diaspora, so the 2nd Generation Copts tend to have an affinity and affection towards the Catholic Church.

furthermore, living in Europe, it does warm our hearts seeing your Church. Especially when its active. ESPECIALLY when we see you venerating Saint Mary.

Did you know in Paris that the Church closes off the entire island of Notre Dame to make a procession for Saint Mary from Notre Dame to Pont Saint Michel every year on the commemoration of her assumption?

How joyful is that?!!

God bless your Church.

I get the impression that if anyone witnesses the life through the eyes of the Catholic Church, in Europe at least, they will only fall in love with the Church. Whether it be Spain, France, Italy etc - anywhere where the Church is active. Its a joyful and contagious spirit that the RC brings to any community when it is truly active.

But how do you all view Coptic Orthodoxy?

Where are our faults, in your eyes?

From where I sit, it seems the Coptic Orthodox Church is very alive and doing well here in the DFW area. They are building/have built 2 large, new churches: one on Colleyville (St. Mary's) and the other in Richardson (St. Philopateer). another church (St. Abanoub's) is in one of the suburbs between Dallas and Ft. Worth.

2 of my colleagues @ work are Coptic Orthodox.

Their diocesan website is: http://suscopts.org

I like the Oriental Orthodox. They are very friendly towards us Roman Catholics. Here in the Cleveland area, we have two Armenian Apostolic churches and one large Coptic Orthodox - St. Mark's - which has a great Coptic festival each year.

I am not a theologian, but I do follow ecumenical dialogues, and I know that there are good relations between our Churches. I pray for the welfare of all Copts. Welcome to our friendly forum and may God bless you.

Hello all,

I am a Coptic Orthodox priest in California and when time permits, I do try to come and view some of these forums. There is a nice atmosphere of charity here...God bless you all.

Several years ago, I studied quite intensely the Christological controversies of the 4-6th centuries and I am confident that between the Chalcedonian and Non-Chalcedonian churches there is no real difference in Christology. Our problem now is simply history...how to erase or cover-up all the anethemas and such. It needs a true spirit of repentance and humility on all sides. I am not sure we are there yet, though. May God act in His time.

In Christ,
Fr. Kyrillos
