My youngest daughter will have a pair of surgeries for serious scoliosis, this Tuesday (the 16th) and the following Tuesday (the 23d).

Tuesday they will remove some discs and ribs to prepare for growth rods and straightening the following Tuesday. Then about three weeks of rehab before she can leave the hospital.

And while Catholic-Mason history is "awkward," to say the least, the Shriners have been wonderful in taking her in. They accept whatever the insurance pays, and refuse anything more. They handle the interstate transportation (several flights so far) and keep a parent in the hospital. Please pray for their work, too.

Kaitlyn will get care and surgery far beyond what she could have achieved on our insurance (which also would have needed about $20k out of pocket!).

Prayers for Kaitlyn's well-being, successful surgery, and quick and full rehabilitation, that she be restored to health and that God grant her many years. May her doctors be guided in their care of her by the Unmercenary Physicians, Cosmas and Damian.

As our brother asks, we should indeed also pray for those who operate and staff the Shriners' Hospitals. Their hospital network has provided medical and surgical care of the highest quality to children suffering from burns, orthopedic, spinal and, most recently, cranio-facial conditions, for close to a century. The services they provide are offered with absolutely no regard for race, creed, or color and, as our brother notes, without regard to the patient's finances - declining any patient payment. (It's only in the past 5-10 years that they even began to accept available insurance payments, having been forced into doing so by the economy - prior to that the services were rendered at absolutely no cost.) Whatever the history and issues between the Churches and the Masonic orders, the care afforded by the Shriners Hospitals to children is truly a work of love and of God for which we should all be grateful.

Many years,

Neil

May the Good God protect and heal your daughter, and grant her the strength she needs to for this walk, as well as her parents, and bless the surgeons and those taking care of her.

God bless all who serve and make provisions for these children.

Praying for Kaitlyn's healing and successful recovery from both operations; and for financial provisions to definitely be forthcoming.

Thank you all.

I haven't been able to get through after the surgery, but she seems to have gotten through the first one OK (from the message my wife left).

Now she recovers for a few days with the main surgery next week.

The second surgery finished a while ago; it went well.

My wife is in post-op with her now; then they'll let me go in.

Curvature was reduced from 106 to 35 degrees.

Now for rehab.

Thank your all for the prayers.

Kaitlyn is doing well beyond expectations. The second surgery was actually easier on her than the first, not harder, and she bounced back quickly.

They expect to send her home early next week rather than two weeks later, as originally anticipated.

And before I left, a mischievous nurse supplied her twin with a gown. He told the others that he would be walking her out to the desk (she wasn't walking yet from the second surgery, but was close).

With her hair done like Kaitlyn's and jeans pulled up to her knees, Kathryn went out with him and staged a fall in front of her own nurse.

smile

Thanks again to all; she is doing very well.
