There is apparently a Chaldean group here in Las Vegas, with a storefront near Meadows Mall.

I found this out by accident during a consultation at my office.

doc,

St Barbara Chaldean Church [saint-barbara-church.org]

Website is pretty well-developed, though it refers to the parish as new; I wasn't able to put a date to it from anything that I could find there - earliest entry appears to be NY Eve Party photos from 2009.

Ah, just checked the 2008 Catholic Directory and it appears there as a mission of St Ann Chaldean Church - also in LV (S Maryland Pkwy)

Many years,

Neil

St. Ann on Maryland Parkway is Roman; my children go there.

I had known that there *had* been an eastern group meeting there, which moved on, but I had thought that that was the Maronites.

Doc,

Interesting - I didn't initially look beyond the Official Catholic Directory. There, the Eparchy of St Peter the Apostle in San Diego of the Chaldeans listed St Ann's as if that was its parish (as opposed to it being a Latin church in which the Chaldeans were meeting) and it listed St Barbara's as a mission of it (St Ann's) - a curious approach.

Looking just now at the eparchial website, St Ann's is not listed - only St Barbara's.

The Maronites have St Sharbel's "Mission" (altho it looks pretty permanent) at 10325 Rancho Destino Rd. They've been there since at least January 2008 per the address on the mission's bulletins. In the 2008 Official Catholic Directory (which would be 2007 info), they were at 2550 E Desert Inn Rd.

Many years,

Neil

That sounds about right; I was there as the KofC honor guard when their bishop dedicated it (which was actually held in the hall, rather than the much smaller [a triple-wide prefab] church).

As I understand, the property was acquired and church built to effectively force the bishop's hand and get a priest sent.

There had been a previous Maronite priest present, who worked for the RC diocese, with disastrous results (I'll leave the details out; they're readily findable elsewhere).

Anyway, the hall is a large, permanent building they built, of a size adequate to a RC congregation (presumably it will be rented out for events to help pay mortgages).

The church is a triple-wide prefab with small areas to either side of the alters. I'm not sure if they're chapels or icon areas (no separate altars).

Both are rather permanent installations, and they have a full time priest assigned to them. I am baffled by the continued use of "mission," but everything they have, including, iirc, the front of the church, says, "St. Sharbel Mission."

That's a strip mall, which includes a Post Box place.
