Tomorrow morning, I will be having angiography to determine the precise location and extent of a significant blockage affecting arterial blood flow in my left leg. The surgeon's hope is to be able to address the blockage immediately and resolve it through placement of a stent. Presuming all goes well, I'll be home in mid-afternoon, spend the remainder of the week and the weekend recovering, and be able to return to work on Monday, free of the nearly debilitating pain that has been pretty much my constant companion these past 3 weeks.

Please keep me in your prayers, particularly that this can be remedied without more invasive surgical intervention, and that I be restored to full activity. (I didn't run marathons beforehand and don't expect to do so afterwards, but active little folk need a Dad who can be active with them - despite his creaky old bones.)

Thank you, my brothers and sisters.

Many years,

Neil

NEIL:

Prayers, my brother, for your full recovery.

Lord Jesus Christ, during your life you were surrounded by suffering and you eliminated it whenever you could. Look down on Your suffering servant, Neil, and ease his suffering. Come to his aid and encourage him at this time and in the time of his recovery. Guide the hands of his physicians as they seek to help him with the healing gifts you have given them. Through the prayers of Your Holy Mother, Lord Jesus, Our Lord and Savior, hear and answer our prayers on behalf of our brother and Your servant, Neil. And through the prayers of St. Nektarios, the holy physician of souls and bodies, grant neil the healing he needs to return to his family to praise Your Holy Name. Amen.

Heartfelt prayers for you, Neil, that God heal you, provide continuing good medical procedures and care needed, free you from further pain, and give you peace and a renewal of energy for those little ones.

Yours in Christ,

My thanks to all of you for your prayers. Unfortunately, the extent of artery involvement precluded stent placement to resolve the issue. I'll be admitted Monday for bypass surgery, which will keep me off-line for 3-4 days and out of work for that and the following week. So, I'd ask that you please continue your prayers.

Having spent 4 decades of my professional life assessing the quality of care afforded patients in acute hospital settings, I'm a very informed and critical observer of medical and nursing care. It was personally very gratifying to observe that the care provided to me by my surgeon and nurses met and exceeded all that one should expect - both professionally and in terms of being very personalized. My thanks to them and prayers for them.

O Lord our God, Who by word alone did heal all diseases, Who did cure the kinswoman of Peter, You Who chastise with pity and heal according to Your goodness; Who are able to put aside every malady and infirmity, do You Yourself, the same Lord, grant aid to this Your servant Neil and cure him of every sickness of which he is grieved; lift him up from his bed of pain, and send down upon him Your great mercy, and if it be Your Will, give to him health and a complete recovery; for You are the Physician of our souls and bodies, and to You do we send up Glory: to Father, and to Son, and to Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Many years! and a speedy recovery!
