We have learned from the Chancery in Johnstown, PA that His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos has entered hospice care at the Bishop's Residence. He has been a true visionary and leader of the Orthodox and a true friend and brother to the Eastern Catholics.

In this first week of the great fast, please pray for him in his time of need, seek for him the protection of the Blessed Virgin, to whom his priestly ministry has been dedicated for fifty two years and have the heavenly messengers protect his soul and guide him through the coming period of time.

Please ask that your priest remember him in his prayers and commemorations for the sick. Axios! Axios! Axios! Lord, have mercy. Hospodi Pomiluj.

May God's faithful servant, Metropolitan Nicholas, be delivered from all pain and fear as his life on earth draws to a close. May he receive the abundant rewards God bestows on them who glorify His Name here on earth.
And may the Lord grant this also to my dear friend, Sr. Dominica Slawuta, SSMI, as she undergoes palliative care as well.

Amen

I sent your request on to Bishop Joseph of Altoona-Johnstown. His Eminence has been a long-time friend of our Diocesan Church and has been a frequent part of our diocesan celebrations.

Lord, grant Your servant what You know he needs to carry his cross during the last days of his earthly life. Help him carry it by Your Grace and Great Mercy. Keep him from a final test in which he would be found wanting. Grant him at last a favored place at the table at Your Wedding Feast in Your Eternal and Everlasting Kingdom. AMEN.

O holy Father, heavenly Physician of our souls and bodies, who hast sent thine Only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to heal all our ailments and deliver us from death: do thou visit and comfort thy slave Metropolitan Nicholas, granting him release from pain and when the hour arrives which thou hast appointed, we beseech thee to grant him rest in the place of thy rest, where all thy blessed Saints repose, and where the light of thy countenance shineth forever. And we beseech thee also to grant that our present lives may be godly, sober, and blame-less, that, we too may be made worthy to enter into thy heavenly Kingdom with those we love but see no longer: for thou art the Resurrection, and the Life, 0 Christ our God, and unto thee we ascribe glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Sadly, I just learned that Metropolitan Nicholas was transported from the rectory to a Hospice Unit this afternoon.

O Lord, may Your will be done.

Prayers for God's servant, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos, beloved earthly Shepherd of the American Carpatho-Rusyn Orthodox Diocese and beloved friend to Eastern Catholics. May His Lord look down upon Metropolitan Nicholas with the same love that he has evinced both for Him and for the Holy Theotokos throughout his priestly life. May he be spared from pain and suffering and rejoice in the expectation of union with God.

The following prayer is found in the Rite of Anointing book for "those whose illness Grows Worse"

O LORD JESUS CHRIST our Savior, for our sake You have been born, have hungered and thirsted, have suffered, and have laid down Your life. As this Your servant Metropolitan Nicholas shares in Your sufferings, allow him to share also in Your graces. May Your Precious Blood wash away the stains of his sins; may Your righteousness cleanse his iniquities. Consider rather his faith in You than his deeds when he appears before You, his Judge. As his health falls, increase in him Your bountiful graces. May he stand firm in his faith; may his hope in You never fail; may his love of You never grow cold; may the fear of death never cause him to abandon trust In You, but persevering to the end, may he say to You: “Into Your hands, 0 Lord, I commend my spirit,” and may he so enter into Your everlasting kingdom, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen.
