I finally remembered to ask. I was told his name was Fr. Matthew (probably) - that's all he could remember.

He had short black hair, glasses, and was Asiatic or native American in appearance.

He stood in the pews the first week he was here as a visitor, and was invited to concelebrate the next week, which he did. I don't remember why he was visiting Southern California.

The "No. 2 Melkite in Mexico" remark was I think less a grandiose pronouncement and more tongue-in-cheek.

jjp,

Thanks - I'm lost - and intrigued and, I must admit, a bit concerned at our willingness to allow concelebration by a priest whose name can 'probably' have been Matthew and who, on his first visit, apparently presented as a congregant. I'm certainly hopeful that Father Matthew had papers and was whom he claimed to be.

Had we a more established presence in Mexico than I believe there to be, I would be less concerned. But, other than Father Exarch Gabriel, we could only hope to have a bi-ritual Latin priest whom Father Exarch might have trained - or a priest imported from the Old Couintry, which does not sound to be the case.

Interesting. I keep hoping to hear from one of our Mexican posters, particularly Bernardo, with some details as to the situation there presently.

Many years,

Neil
