Did anyone else catch this. 7th grader Wins First National Spanish Spelling Bee [ tinyurl.com]... Bizantinismo...B-i-z-a-n-t-i-n-i-s-m-o...Bizantinismo! That was the word that won it all for Evelyn Juárez, a seventh grade girl from Santa Cruz N.M. who won the first national Spanish spelling bee Saturday. Juárez, of Carlos F. Vigil Middle School, won by correctly spelling the Spanish word "bizantinismo," which means excess luxury... excess luxury!

"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."
