Does anyone know where Metropolitan elect Skurla attended church as a child? I have not seen any reference to his home parish.

LGC,
Good to see a post from you, prayers that you are well. As memory serves, Vladyka William is from Minnesota originally, and a quick check of David Cheney's Catholic-Hierarchy.org confirms that and gives Duluth as his birthplace. In the 50s, I believe that St John the Baptist in Minneapolis was the sole Ruthenian parish in MN.
Many years,
Neil

Reading the Metropolitan Elect's bio on the Archeparchy's website I came across this part: "In 1996, having received and accepted his dispensation from solemn vows as a member of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM)"
What exactly does this mean?

He ceased to be a friar and became a diocesan priest.

The distance is approximately 140 miles. I hope he will honor and enhance the Byzantine tradition.

He ceased to be a friar and became a diocesan priest. Dn Lance, Just two more questions. Did the current Archbishop of Boston also have to do this? I feel like he still wears the robe of a Franciscan. Or does it not apply to bishops? Thanks.

Cardinal O'Malley is in a different situation, he never left the order before becoming a bishop whereas Bishop William "left" the Franciscans and was incardinated into the Eparchy of Van Nuys.

Erie Byz is correct. I would add that in the Latin Church, bishops from Orders with habits are to lay them aside and the wear bishop's/cardinal's cassock and choir dress but Cardinal O'Malley tends to ignore this and wears the Franciscan habit adding only the cardinal's zuccheto.
