I just got back home from Ukraine, and thought i would post these thoughts in case you were interested. They're not much, as I was exhausted when I was actually writing, but hopefully you won't find them a waste of time.

Father bless! I did not know that you were a Priest. Please forgive me for not addressing you accordingly in the past.

I simply thought you were a friend of Slavs! *wink*

I read your reflections. I am wondering: Do Orthodox and Greek Catholics celebrate Pascha on the same day in Ukraine?

(In Greece, all Catholics and Greeks share a common date (Julian) for the common good of families who may be mixed)

Yours in Christ,
Alice

Yes. The Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mucachevo posted videos of an amazing outdoor procession from Cross Adoring Sunday dated April 7,2013. I asked a friend with family there about this question yesterday and the answer was that in Ukraine, the Greek Catholics follow the Julian Calendar with the Orthodox Paschalion.

It is a problem along the Slovak border though as the Greek Catholics under Presov mostly follow the western dates. Very confusing.

Here is the procession:

If, like me you are Orthodox, but yet you can feel no kinship with these believers, I would ask that you open your heart and mind these last weeks of the Fast to the reality that our earthly insistence on not trying to heal our divisions is displeasing to God.

I just wanted to make clear my comments regarding certain Orthodox were not directed at Alice. Quite the contrary.

BTW what happened to the edit post function?

Alice, no problem at all. Indeed, I didn't think I posted enough on here to be noticed at all, never mind being known as a priest!

As for Pascha, indeed Greek Catholics and Orthodox in Ukraine do celebrate on the same calendar. In fact, while I know that there are some UGCC parishes on the Gregorian calendar in Canada, I have never actually encountered a Ukrainian church on anything but the Julian calendar, at least here in Europe.

I should add that I always find it slightly disconcerting when the readings on the front page of this site reflect Gregorian accounting. I keep thinking that I have missed something!

It's apparently gone awry - it's visible to Mods and is visible to members on pm's, but missing on member posts. I've messaged John regarding the problem.

The default time limit for editing posts for most members is 20 minutes.

The next time a regular member posts, please do us the favor of timing how long the "Edit" link appears at the bottom of your post. Thanks.

John - I posted a response as a test this morning whilst Neil was on - there was no Edit button for my post - not even fleetingly .

I notified Neil by PM -[ and that did have an Edit button ] and he deleted my post , it was only done as a test and really had no relevance to the topic

FYI on the ACROD website, the user is given a calendar option. You can pick Old Julian Calendar or the Resvised Julian.

Excellent! Thanks for that, DMD.
