I am in a fairly large archdiocese (Louisville KY.) There are LOTS of Latin Churches but no EC churches at all. As far as i know, there has never been one. I frankly doubt that the vast majority of Catholics in the Archdiocese even know that there are eastern rite churches within the Catholic church. How to get the conversation started? I emailed our archdiocese and got an email that basically said "we'll get back to you." they didn't. I am actually beginning to think they don't want the competition. In the meantime, I'm forced to go to either a dancing rock and roll Mass, or one of the 2 in LAtin. there seems to be no middle. And besides, I love the eastern liturgy and spirituality. I am tempted to go orthodox. has anybody had any experience in getting an Eastern Rites church located in their community? I am going to contact some of the Eastern dioceses or eparchies themselves. I haven't done that yet...

RKO:
Welcome to the forum.
That said, getting an Eastern Cqatholic parish located near you is more than just a call or letter to a bishop. You'll need to get some others involved and form a community. Churches just don't appear out of nowhere. In addition, the Eastern Catholic Churches are having the same problem with staffing parishes that the Latin Church has so this won't be an easy task.

Well, I was fairly sure it'd take more than a phone call. Too bad that they are having the staffing problems as well. Thanks for the response.

Found on this website, not sure if this is you but will repost:
KENTUCKY: Lexington, Kentucky - NEW (Posted 8/16/2012): Anyone interested in having the Divine Liturgy served regularly in Lexington and hopefully starting a Byzantine Mission, please contact A.J. Elko by e-mail at a.j.elko@cas.us.com

Another problem could be the influence of that moniker: Go West young man . . .

Also, do you know of any else who is interested in attending an EC parish (or visiting an Orthodox one)? P.S. Also, if you ever visit an EC parish an hour away or whatever, you might take the opportunity to ask whether they ever get Louisville visitors.

I have heard there is a community in Louisville KY; I know a Ukranian priest who I believe has visited the community there. Anyways, on the Louisville Archdiocesan Web site they list the following which might be helpful to you: Eastern Catholic Faithful Purpose: Canonically established communities for Catholics of the Byzantine and Maronite Churches who are living in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Holy Transfiguration Community is a mission of the Ukrainian Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma, Ohio, and of the Melkite-Greek Eparchy of Newton, Mass. The Maronite Community is a mission of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles. Liaison for members of other Eastern Churches who live in the area. Location: Services at St. Thomas More, 6105 Third St., Louisville, Ky. 40214, (502) 451-1555; FAX: (502) 366-1464. Call for times. E-mail: jwbir@iglou.com Rev. John W. Birk, Administrator, (502) 451-1555 http://www.archlou.org/departments-and-services/offices-organizations/

Diaspora - you will learn the meaning of the word in the hinterlands of America.
I've always lived very very far away from Eastern Churches.
My father was Serbian Orthodox and when we were growing up (Airforce brats) there virtually was NO SUPPORT NO CHURCH.
Now I live in Utah - If I want to attend a Divine Liturgy I have to drive 2 hours to the church.
I did it for 3 years (make every feast day and Sat Vesper and Sunday Divine Liturgy I could.
It takes a lot of money and a dedication and longing to attend churches - or you could move to a large metropolitan area like LA Philadelphia, New York.
I pray that you find the East. Like the guy says - you may have to move WEST to find the EAST. (that is like - profound)

In response to Peter and Justin: peter, we have 2 Orthodox parishes in Louisville. 1 Greek, the other Antiochian. I have attended the Antiochian many times and love it. there are no EC parishes within at least 100 miles. I attempted to contact the person from Lexington whom Imier suggested (thanks!) but the email given is no longer valid.
The good news is Justin's info which I was unaware of. I have a call into St. Thomas More Parish to inquire about the regularity of an Eastern Liturgy. No call back yet. Thanks to all for the great help and advice.
