Leaders of various Christian churches along with leading Rabbis of our brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith have spoken out for peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine, yet the Patriarch of Moscow is conspicuously silent. Has he been told by Putin to be quiet and remain obedient to the government as was dictated during the Communist years?

Dear Pavloosh,

I don't know how helpful your post here will be to . . . anything right now.

Pavloosh, why don't you ask His Holiness Kyrill for yourself? He will know better than anyone here.

One does wonder, however, why the Metropolitan of the UOC-MP has publicly called for Russia to withdraw from Ukrainian territory, while the Patriarch of Moscow is . . . missing in action.

Well, I did warn him. Repeatedly.

Metropolitans and Patriarchs of Moscow have always walked a tightrope, similar to the one walked by beloved Pius XII.

Charity requires us to think the best of his actions, even silence, and his motives.

Well, since the Russian authorities don't know where all those soldiers and armoured vehicles came from - at least we can now breathe a sigh of relief . . . wink

As for the UOC-MP, its hierarchs are not consistent and consequently they have a credibility issue.

The Moscow Patriarch is actually much better off than the UOC-MP.
