I simply wish to know if the candle tapers that are used in the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Church are "blessed" and made of beeswax, like roman candles (pun not intended but left standing.)

I mean the thin ones, rather roughly made as if not from a mold, that you can buy for fifty cents each, or maybe a dollar, as you enter the church. These are also used during Liturgy, being placed into a large gold object (sorry, I do not know what it is called) that stands outside the iconostasis, slightly to the right, at the bottom of the steps, where the faithful receive the Eucharist.

Anyway, is there anything special about these candles--are they "blessed" by a priest? What are they made of? Does any rule or rubric govern candles in Eastern Churches?

I am sure I won't wait long for the answer, given the very well informed people here

Thank You, Many Years
