Alex, those lights you saw were probably reflections from the jewels in Tsar Putin's crown. LOL.

I wonder, on a more serious note, if anyone has compiled some of these sightings into a book that is reliable. I don't pay any attention to the supposed sightings on TV shows because they are over-dramatized.

Looks like UFOs were present at the Crucifixion: link. [youtube.com] If it's on the internet, it's got to be true! wink

I might have missed it, but I didn't see a definition for "UFO".

Is UFO short for "Ukrainians Frying Onions"?

If yes, I'm not surprised Alex saw them during a backyard barbeque.

biggrin

When I was in the Byzantine Catholic Church, (maybe ten years ago?), my pastor at the time made a mention of the "purple demons" which are permitted to tempt and harass the faithful as they struggle during the Great Fast. They arrive after Forgiveness Vespers and are scorched and banished again at the Great Feast of Holy Pascha. I have never heard about this in Orthodox circles. I don't know why he referred to them with the color purple....but your experiences brought this story to my mind.

The purple colour is also symbolic of death and destruction.

Purple or dark red is also the priest's vestment colour for:

Weekdays of the Great Fast and Sunday of the Cross (and the week following).

Black or dark purple is the colour for:

--Palm Sunday eve through Wednesday eve.
--Great Thursday eve through Friday eve.
--Great Saturday Vesperal Divine Liturgy.

Most interesting!

My experience has now been confirmed.

Thank you, dear brother in Christ! smile

Dear Alice and Recluse,

This brings up the important question - what does a Christian do when he or she encounters evil phenomena?

Say a prayer. cross oneself, and then ignore.

There is a short little prayer in Greek which I like to use since I found out about it:

Jesus Christ is victorious, and all evil is banished in His Name!

Cross oneself.

Pray an easily repeated chant: the Trisagion or the three-fold Kyrie. Over and over.

And flee from all fixation.

For me, it's the sign of the cross and the Jesus Prayer.
