Chorbishop John is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Canon Law at the Catholic University of America, past President of the Canon Law Society of America, Secretary General of the Society for the Law of the Eastern Churches (1991-2000), Consultor for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, Liaison Committee for Latin and Eastern Church Affairs (1992–96).
