My son goes to a Catholic school and his class is dressing up as a saint and doing a report. My son picked Saint Alexander Patriarch of Constantinople (his name day).

I got the costume figured out based upon the icon for here:

On the icon is a scroll in Greek. What does it say?

I know this is probably too late. I am so sorry--I just saw this. You should have contacted me, Ray. Anyway, it means:

Εξαιρέτως της Παναγίας,αχράντου,υπερευλογημένης,ενδόξου Δεσποίνης ημών Θεοτόκου και Αειπαρθένου Μαρίας''

Especially our All Holy One, immaculate, most blessed, glorious Lady, the Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary.

'Panagia' or 'All Holy One' is the most common name which Greeks use to refer to the Virgin Mary.

For instance, a mother might say to her child: Pray to Panagia and she will help you.

It is pronounced 'Pa na yi a'.

Thanks!

Someone sent me a message with the same translation. We dressed my son up as St. Alexander and we had the English translation of the scroll which he held up. Everyone like it.
