Dear Hutsul,

I don't know about my standing or sitting but I do know a succinct and comprehensive post when I read it!!

And Father Deacon Lance (I always think about Sir Lancelot when I hear his name) is no slouch either!

I was riveted to what was going on in Russia to watch the battle of the war criminals. Their time will come as Mr P has shown himself to be top contender for the title of "Most Useless Leader" in the world.

I doubt if Prighozin reads this Forum, but just in case he does, I would recommend that he stay far away from windows in high-rise buildings for the next long while.

Defenestration was once a punishment for heresy. And for treason in Russia too, it would seem . . .

I suspect that over the coming days and weeks we will learn of several upper level leaders dying suddenly and mysteriously.

We can only pray that they--and we--will live the remaining time of our lives in peace and repentance and be prepared to make good defense before the judgement seat of Christ.

I wasn't part of this conversation, but, given what we know happened to Prighozin, your comment aged like fine wine (although, not defenestration).

I have to be honest with y'all, I am not understanding the argument, "Ukraine is corrupt, so therefore". This is usually what I hear. But, having talked to both Ukrainians and Russians (including ethnic Russian Ukrainians), Ukrainians are angry (rightfully so), and Russians seem to be confused (there's a lot of censorship in Russia, you're not even supposed to call it a "war"). I talked to an ethnic Russian from Ukraine, and she can still keep contact with her Russian relatives (probably the same way I can, and have, talked to both Russians and Ukrainians), and they told her they want her to be free, she said "I am Ukrainian, I am already free", or, something along those lines. It frustrates me that people act like this war is somehow justified. And the Patriarch of Moscow, what he said just makes my blood boil. I think he cares more about being Russian than being Christian. I can tell you, that Russians outside of Russia (including members of my own family, I am not Russian, long story, not married in either, blood relatives), can't stand Putin, and actively oppose the war. Every day, I just try to figure out what Putin is trying to prove, why he thinks this is a good idea, and every day, I come away more and more frustrated. A corrupt country still has the right to defend itself. That's my position.

Adamcsc, your words......

"I think he cares more about being Russian than being Christian"........hit the nail on the head without the need for any unnecessary reasoning, it is just that clear.

And thank you bumping this topic up. We are currently in a situation where support for Ukraine is being questioned by some factions. (This is exactly what Putin wants)

There are those who recite the Russian propoganda against Ukraine as justification for the invasion. These people generally .........care more about power than democracy.....and secretly admire the political figures who bring that power about.

Adamcsc,

If you want to shut down people who make this statement, tell them to look no further than our own government at this time. Those who point the finger at Ukraine need to remember that when one points at another, three of his four fingers are pointing at him. Every day we see more uncovered about our own corruption, especially at the top level of our Executive branch. But this is a story for another thread.

This war in Ukraine began with lies and continues with lies. Russia has dominated Ukraine for a few centuries, but that does not mean that Ukrainians are Russians or that they do not have a separate history and culture. Russia has this mythology about Ukraine that Ukrainians do not share. One has only to look at history a short time ago to know why Ukrainians are willing to fight to the last person--the Holomodor.

The Russian Orthodox Church, sadly, has bought into the genocidal thought pattern that sits behind this war. The thought was succinctly expressed by one of the Russian propagandists as "Ukrainians can either be Russian or be dead." Patriarch Kiril has blessed whatever goes on, from the original genocide in Bucha to the shelling of hospitals, civilians and their infrastructure, to the destruction of grain storage which threatens a global food crisis.

Truth be told; the Soviet Union found it very convenient to consider Ukraine a nation (including Crimea) when it needed an extra seat at the United Nations. Mr Putin's memory is very short, if he has any at all!

And I might ad: at the Olympics when they all piled up medals for USSR, if you remember those days.

If only that were true.
Russians certainly supported the illegal annexation of Crimea.

Then, there's ROCOR, which for 80 years or so opposed the Moscow Patriarch.
These days, the MP is supporting the genocidal invasion of Ukraine, and I haven't seen much in the way of opposition from ROCOR (at least some of its hierarchs actively support it).
The OCA, while taking a more diplomatic tack, hasn't come out and clearly condemned the invasion.

Roman Et Al. ,

Here is a very interesting article/ editorial concerning the re- unification of ROCOR with ROC/MP.

Please find the article in a new thread in Town Hall.

This topic is moving beyond its title. I am therefore cutting the link Hutsul has made to the ROCOR opinion article. It will be in Town Hall under the title "Untie the knot of ROCOR MP reunification."
