Memory Eternal! Fr. Timothy Barkley
Fr. Peter Samore, Director of Communications
With shock and sadness, yet with hope in the resurrection on the last day, the Antiochian Archdiocese shares the news of the sudden passing of Priest Timothy Barkley, 61, the pastor of St. James Church of Taneytown, Md.
Fr. Timothy celebrated the divine services of Palm Sunday and reposed in the Lord Jesus Christ during his sleep that night, April 5, 2026. (Listen to his final recorded homily.)
Fr. Timothy and his family were received into Holy Orthodoxy in 1999 at Holy Cross Church in Linthicum, Md. He and his family were blessed to be part of the founding of St. James Church in 2006.
He served as a member of the choir and a chanter, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, member and chairman of the parish council. He also served as an acolyte, subdeacon and deacon. His Grace Bishop Thomas ordained Fr. Timothy to the holy priesthood on July 19, 2019, and he became the pastor of St. James Church.

In his secular profession, Fr. Timothy was an attorney in a small-town law practice in Mount Airy, Md. He earned his Juris Doctor degree and Master of Arts in Public Policy from the Regent University School of Law. He served as a member of the Maryland State Bar and the Bar of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Additionally, Fr. Timothy served the community for many years as president of the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce and as an active member of the Howard County Farm Bureau.
Fr. Timothy was known for being kind as he was tall, hailed by his parishioners and friends as a loving pastor. At the time of his repose, he was also a devoted student in the Typicon 102 class in the Antiochian Orthodox Ecclesiastical Online Music School.
He is survived by his wife, Kh. Anna; their children Joy, Sister Nina (Caroline), Timothy Jr., Margaret and Subdn. Michael (Joseph); and all his spiritual children at St. James Church.
