Indeed, He is Risen!

I would like to share a new English translation of a selection of the principal troparia from the Byzantine liturgical year.

This collection includes the Resurrectional Troparia of the Eight Tones, the major hymns of the movable cycle (Pascha through All Saints and Pre-Lent through Palm Sunday), the Twelve Great Feasts, and other commonly used texts. The goal of the translation has been to remain faithful to the Greek and Slavonic originals while expressing their meaning in clear, natural English suitable for both reading and singing.

Particular care has been taken to preserve the theological content, imagery, and poetic structure of the hymns, while allowing them to flow in a way that is accessible to English-speaking readers familiar with the language of Scripture. Where appropriate, established English biblical renderings have been followed.

The texts are arranged in sense lines to reflect their natural phrasing and to assist both devotional reading and practical use.

Comments and suggestions are welcome, especially where the translation may be inaccurate or unclear. A companion document with detailed translation notes and comparative material is in preparation and will be made available in due course.
