I'll echo Alex's thanks - your prayer is much appreciated . I have already saved it and printed it. It has gone into what I term my Resources and I hope it does not do what some have done this year - vanished to where I know not

Dr. John,

Glad I'm not alone. It does seem that this Lent has given opportunities to be with/serve our brothers & sisters. And I dunno if you meant your question to elicit answers, but, YES!!! ABSOLUTELY visit one or two of the loneliest in the nursing home - the folks who get no visitors. A warm smile, five minutes of conversation and a friendly touch can be like cool water in a trackless desert.

Best,

Sharon

Dear Mother Sharon,

Your post to our incredibly wonderful friend, Dr. John smile , reminded me of the Anglican community of Nicholas Ferrar of Little Gidding who lived in the seventeenth century.

They lived a semi-monastic life, reciting the Psalter TWICE in every 24 hour period and fasted a great deal.

They fasted not only to fulfill the rules of their tradition, but also so that they could give as much as possible to the poor.

They also gave a penny for each Psalm a child would learn off by heart, recited before them on Sunday afternoons.

Many children soon learned the entire Psalter by heart smile .

At the same time, their parents noticed a big change in their children and expressed gratitude for that.

God bless you, Mother Sharon, our precious pearl of great price!!

(Oh, did I mention I was in a good mood? smile )

Alex

I'm glad that you guys enjoyed the hymn. There are other ones that are particularly nice, esp. around Holy Week. There's a prayer sung by the priest or deacon during one of the services on Good Friday that brings tears to my eyes, esp. since it has my name in it. If I post it, maybe you'll see what I mean. ::teary smile ::

Thanks for the enkomion, Alex. Just love you Ukies -- you are always so warm and steadfast.

And Sharon: thanks for the verbal kick in the tush. I will make sure that I ask the nurse on 5 to see who might like a visit. (Of course, I talk with all the folks out in the corridor -- and I know a lot of 'em at least by sight if not by name.)

One of the ladies, she turned 96 back in October, made a break for it tonight. She got into the elevator and the door closed before the nurse could get to her. They got her in the lobby. (Guess she just wanted to get outside to the 7-11, and have a coffee and a smoke!)

As I said before, this has been a real weird Lent. (Maybe I should start over again with the Orthodox Triodion?)

Blessings!
