Dear Friends, You should all know that our Tammy is a beadswoman par excellence. I recently purchased a couple of wooden (Carpathian-style) chotki made by her - and they are superb! My wife carries one pair about with her everywhere she goes - a miracle in itself! ( ) Tammy now has her own home business making chotki and I cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone who would like a pair of handsome chotki/prayer beads that will give pleasure to the hands and Grace to the soul! To bead or not to bead - there should be no question! Get in touch with Tammy for further details! And these make GREAT Christmas gifts. If you hurry, you just might make New Calendar Christmas, if not - then Old Calendar!! Alex

Dear Anhelyna, How wonderful to hear from our Bonnie Lass from Scotland!! "Pair" only because there are two strands of beads that are joined at one end. St Louis de Montfort once quoted people who were making fun of his very large habit rosary "But really, what are you doing with such a giant pair of beads?" Happy Hogmanay! Alex

Alex, Thanks for the glowing praise! Whenever I can get my website to work , I'll post the link. I'm using a no-frills free hosting service and I know virtually nothing about html. (This sevice doesn't have a nice little idiot-proof user interface like eBay does.) But, this is a good learning experience! Anhelyna, I don't call it a "pair" - maybe that's Ukrainian or Canadian usage? It's probably like a "pair" of scissors or a "pair" of pants. Hmmm. Tammy

Bead chotkis are very nice. The knotted rope type - well, some day I'll learn that knot.... maybe.
Cheers from where it's WET outside today,

Dear Friends, It is interesting that the word "bead" comes from the Old English word for "prayer" - and "beg" is also from the same "Bede" as in "St Bede the Venerable. The larger, divider beads were formerly called the "gaudies" and the name has stuck as "gaudy." Whenever you need some useless information, you know who to come to. Alex
