Please list every document (possible) regarding mandatory celibacy in the Eastern Catholic Churches and married priesthood.
Thanks, Joe

Joe:
Is it not the Ea Semper decree of Pope Pius XI that mandated celibacy for Eastern Catholic priests in the United States? I believe the year was about 1927 and it went into effect about 1937. I think that this time frame roughly corresponds to the same time period as the establishment of the ACROD.

Ea Semper (1908). Article 10. "Ruthenian clergyman will be admitted to the Latin seminaries in the area where they were born or in which they are domiciled. But only those who are celibate at present and who shall remain so may be promoted to the sacred orders."
As quoted: p. 31, "Our People," by Paul Robert Magocsi, 1984, Multicultural History Society of Ontario.
Cum Data Fuerit (1929). Chapter II, Art. 12 "Until there shall be a sufficient number of Greek-Ruthenian priests who have been educated in the United States... as has already several times been provided, priests of the Greek-Ruthenian rite who wish to go to the United States of North America and stay there, must be celibates."
As quoted: p. 277 "Byzantine Rite Rusins in the United States in Carpatho-Ruthenia and America," by Walter C. Warzeski. (1971). Byzantine Seminary Press

Tim:
Thanks for the references.
Joe:
Sorry that I had the wrong date and time frame. I had read of the Ea Semper decree a long time ago, but mistakenly placed it later than it actually was. The 1908 date would place it with Pope St. Pius X.

That really p***es me off! Not at you guys at all! :-D
But, everytime I think of this ridiculous rule back in the '20s....I just cringe.
But I can't believe that Pope St. Pius X would mandate celibacy among Eastern priests.
But have a good weekend anyhow.
