One final comment on titles: in the Roman Church I believe that it is only in the English speaking New World (and maybe only in the U.S.) that Archbishops are called "excellency". In most countries it would be "grace", according to a seminary etiquette manual I have.

Brothers,
I heartily thank you. I am now well forearmed for meeting almost any eclesiastical dignitary in almost any region of the world. This has been most educational.
I would still like to know if there are any Ruthenians out there who would like me to ask Metropolitan Basil anything.

Dear KH,
Although the Byzantine Catholic Church is now an American institution, I have wondered for some time about the Met's language skills.
In addition to English, does he speak Ruthenian (Ukrainian), Slovak, or any other languages ?
How does he rate himself on these (ie: fluent, can converse somewhat, or just enough to order perogies at a church fair)?

As to the traditional way to ask a blessing, see: http://www.saintelias.com/EtiquetteKK/PriestGreeting/PriestGreeting_elia.html I believe, however, one would ask: "Bless, Master" for the Metropolitan instead of "Bless, Father" as one does when meeting a priest. Since you asked for a question for the Metropolitan...How about asking if the Metropolia has thought about establishing an official website? Perhaps with a live internet broadcast of Vespers & Divine Liturgy & other services? Such a website could become quite a tool in evangelism. David Ignatius DTBrown@aol.com

Dear Dave, Perhaps you should e-mail the Metropolitan and tell him to have a link on his new website to the Byzantine Forum?  Then when he sees some of my posts, he could so a sermon, perhaps, with a title like: "Don't let this happen to you . . ." Alex
