The Orthodox Church by Timothy Ware, was my primary introduction to Eastern Christianity. I found it very concise and informative from both a theological and historical standpoint.

Dear Paul,

If you don't already have it, go to www.light-n-life.com [light-n-life.com] and order a copy of their catalog. They have the most comprehensive collection of books on everything Eastern I've seen anywhere. A brief description accompanies each title.

It's a picture of a coal breaker. I use it to
honor my ancestors, Catholics all, who slaved,
suffered, and sometimes died in the coal fields

Greetings, I read an interesting book that presents Christian wisdom with philosophy and psychology to go beyond the limitations of conceptual thought in religion today to calm and ground the mind and initiate deep internal healing. With the ability to change lives for the better "Evolution of Consciousness" is a journey towards unity and a new way of living. Its uniqueness lies in a psycho-spiritual development where religion and science strengthen each others belief because they are both concerned with what is true

Dear Soma,

Wecome to the forum.

To come to know our Lord and God through Scripture and the Holy Church and
to converse wirh him in intimate personal prayer is what calms and grounds my mind and initiates deep internal healing in my life on a daily basis. Some days better than others. smile

May God bless you and be with you.

In Christ, Bill

Yes, indeed. And those from Northeastern PA too.
My dad was involved in a fire when he was young. Almost died. Then, he was wounded in France during WWII. So there is a reason why I am here today.

Antonious,

You and other descendents of coal crackers may be interested in this site about the Coal Region [coalregion.com] . Those who aren't so honored as to have this heritage may be interested in the recipe page, which includes halushki, bleenies, pierohi, halupkies, among other things.

Many years,

Neil
