Dear Bonaventure,

Yes indeed, and Dr. John here had some dealings with the Jesuits in his formative years I understand . . .

But the Byzantine Jesuits in Rome are Numero Uno when it comes to Eastern Church scholarship - many Orthodox travel there to do their doctorates in Eastern theology - ironic?

Alex,

Thanks for the info. If all goes well I may be moving to Rome next fall to attend the angelicum...do you have any more information on these guys? A web site or something? Or maybe the name of the place they teach at. If I Move there I may want to get in touch with them.

Thanks and God Bless

Dear Bonaventure,

The Administrator and Anastasios (also an Administrator) would know!

Studying with the Byzantine Jesuits is something that will turn anyone into an excellent Eastern theologian - and good church politician to boot!

Amin, Brat Oleksander!

The contributions of the Jesuits to the study of Eastern Christian liturgy, theology and spirituality has been remarkable and invaluable in the last one hundred years - with such luminaries as Juan Mateos, Arranz, Jungman, Danielou, Irenee Hausherr, George Maloney and more recently, Archimandrite Robert Taft, professor at the Orientalium and the L'viv Theological Academy.

dear Bonaventure:

In Older Rome, the Orthodox Jesuits are mostly at the Pontifical Oriental Institute [the Orientalium] and the Russian College [the Russicum]. It's kitty corner from Santa Maria Maggiore [where St. Luke's Theotokos icon is apparently].

They also have the Centro Aletti, a kind of ecumenical project where Orthodox and Catholics interact.

Dear Bonaventure,

Just don't go becoming "Jesuitical" on us, O.K.? wink

Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam

How do you say that in Greek, I wonder?

Didn't you say before that you were thinking of the religious life before....Maybe we can join the Jesuits together!

What do you think Alex?

Bonaventure:

Acceptance by Alex of your proposal will result in a cabal!

However, I might join you and Alex in your conspiratorial designs but I am now too old to wield that famous (or infamous) Jesuit casuistry.

Dear Angela:

I am pretty sure the Western Jesuits accept only unmarried novitiates. However, some Jesuits tend to get out of the Order to get married!

The "Eastern" Jesuits might be allowed, someday, to be married and with children!

Last I heard, the SJ has not relaxed its rule for an all-male Order.

So, I think, it's an opportune time for you to start a Congregation or an Order of Jesuit women religious? biggrin

That would be a BLAST!!!

Amado,

your never too old for the Jesuits!

There is a great old Jesuit priest at my university who loves to joke that he's a jesuit....and he's Catholic too!

On a serious note I pray that western religious orders will get back on track...it would do wonders for the church. The jesuits are certainly the most infamous(and not without reason) but from what I hear of friends who were discerning other orders its pretty bad out there.

God Bless and have a great night

Brethren,
Does the Body need the head?
Of course.
And dont give me this protestant thinb about Christ being the Head.
(That he is most certainly)
But the visible body of the Church needs a visible head.)
The universal Church needs a visible head just as each particular Church needs a head in the person of the Bishop.
