Thanks a lot for the reading suggestions. I've heard good things about both Archbishop Raya and Lossky's "Mystical Theology". The archbishop was a Melkite, right? Incidentally, I don't think that deacon Chrysostom intended for his list to be complete or all-inclusive; he simply wanted to offer a starting point. Thanks again.

You are correct regarding the completeness or all inclusiveness of the list. Actually I meant that personally speaking there were books on that list that I would not recommend to someone looking in to Orthodoxy, and one that I would consider highly suspect. (I'm only referring to the books written by Orthodox authors). Andrew

If you don't mind my asking, of which book would you be suspect, and why?

Well the list of books would be the same if Chris was here in Australia and seeking reading materials on the Byzantine church.
Chris watching and listening to the services and the Liturgy is a good way to come to an understanding of how things come together in the Byzantine world. If you are following in books there is a possibilty of missing things. You have been recommended some good reading by the Deacon and you are already familiar with one of the best books by bishop Kalistos on the Orthodox Church. Happy reading and also welcome to this forum. God bless!
