Dear Friends,
You know that I like to do an akathist once in a while and have done a few, with some translations.
Any suggestions from anyone about new saints or themes to do an akathist on?
Alex

Dear Brother Alex, in Christ,
To me it is a surprise that you do akathists, composing and so. How is the custom there, do you need the blessing of the place bishop or of your Father Confessor?
Please, if you want, make an akathist to St. Simeon the New Theologian. He is not a new Saint, but he is very little known or read or so. Or an akathist to St. Andrei Rubliov. Only two ideas.
Brotherly, in Christ, Marian +

Alex Alex, There are so many possibilities... Can we see a list of the Akathists you have already written (including a note in which languages they are available)? Σώσον, Κύριε, καί διαφύλαξον ηάς από τών Βασιλιάνικων τάξεων!

Dear Kobzar, Yes, they are all here on this page: https://www.byzcath.org/sites/alex/web/ There is also my akathist to the Anglican Bl. King Charles the Martyr that has been published in the US. Copies can be obtained from the Society of King Charles the Martyr: www.stoafutura.com/skcm/ [ stoafutura.com] Alex

Alex, I have one underway for St. Pavel Florensky - you and I should form the Akathist Society of North America... I have never seen an Akathist to the "Icon not made by human hands" as it approaches on the true, er- Julian Calendar. Perhaps there is?

Dear Father Diakon, Yes, there is . . . in Slavonic. There are two actually, one to a miraculous icon in Kharkiv as well. I check "akafist.narod.ru" regularly, as I know you do as well, and they keep coming up with all sorts of new ones! Someone sent them a link to the Administrator's web-page with the akathists above and they listed them . . . for three days. They received complaints that these were "Catholic Akathists" and then they were pulled from the site - then I received a stern e-mail from the administrator of that akafist site in Russian. I had no trouble understanding his meaning! In actual fact, the Orthodox Church appropriated a number of "Uniate Akathists" according to Met. Ilarion Ohienko, removing from them only that which might "dim the pure light of Orthodoxy!" Alex

Alex,
What about St Maria Skobtsova of Paris??? Now THERE was a modern saintly life worthy of many akathists!!!
Also, that blessed Hierarch Andrei Scheptytsky

Dear Brian, Yes, I've already done one to Andrei Sheptytsky as you can see on the above site! St Maria of Paris is a good idea! Any Irish saints that don't have akathists yet . . .? Alex

Excellent idea, Brian - I recently saw a new icon with Alexander Men, Mother Mary (Skobtsova), Lev Gillet, and Alexander Schmemann. Very interesting.
