Dear Ken, in terms of specific questions about the practice fasting there is a very good concise summary on one of my personal favorite Old Believer websites: http://www.churchofthenativity.net/rules.html

Before beginning any serious change in personal ascetic practice, it is good to confer with one's spiritual father.

Fr. John Whiteford really has done an incredible job with his compilation of Reader's Services as well as all kinds of links to other resources. He is very helpful and quite prompt about answering specific questions he receives. He has made the riches of the Orthodox liturgical tradition very accessible and may God bless him abundantly for that.

If you prefer a book there are several very good texts out there, including the Unnabreviated Horologion, the Old Orthodox Prayer Book (Old Believer) and the Mega Horologion (Great Book of the Hours) which are all available from St. John of Kronstadt Press,http://www.sjkp.org/

Archbishop Raya's Byzantine Daily Worship, which also contains the Little Hours, Paraklesis, Akathists, etc. and is available from Icon and Book Service www.iconbook.org [iconbook.org]

Everyone on this thread:
Thank you for the insights. I am ashamed to say that I have been so ignorant. However, I am very glad I followed the impulse to post this question. BTW, we had a lovely EHC liturgy in our parish this morning. One last question, if he is still watching: Fr. T, did you have some material you wished to share or did the others pretty much offer the suggestions you were considering?
Again, thanks to everyone smile

Amazingly, I really can't find exactly what I'm hoping to recommend to you. Just need a comprehensive explanation of the "how" of fasting for the entire year.

However, there are two articles that will help you to glean some insight into how the system works. Maybe I'll just have to sit down and write an article. frown

These articles deal specifically with the Great Fast (Lent) but the categories remain for various fasts.
