I would like to add one more thing.

Although it may seem from my comments that confession is a "burden" - that did not read well. If anything, it is a great privlege for priests to hear confessions and a great joy to witness when those who sin, repent! My perspective was of a priest who, weary from the services, would schedule confessions in such a way to ease the difficulties of a busy Holy Week and Pascha.

Just wanted to clarify.

Thank you very much, Father, for taking the time to respond. It was both enlightening and helpful. Sometimes I (and I am sure others in the laity) forget that our priests are but human! It is a shortcoming that I am trying to work on.

Thank you again!

Dear Father Thomas,

It is very, very good to see you back here. smile

I pray that all is well with you, your family, and your parish, and I wish you a most blessed upcoming Pascha!

(I just purchased a CD of the Resurrection service sung by St. Vladimir's Seminary. Have you heard it? It is truly HEAVENLY! As I am in close proximity to the Seminary, the Lenten period blesses those of us that attend the various Lenten services in my parish, the opportunity to meet some of the seminarians that come to visit us. )

Kissing your right hand,
In Christ,
Alice

Hello Alice,

Nice to see you too. I've been lurking, and will continue to. I just wanted to put in my "two cents" on this subject.

Yes, I'm familiar with that recording. In fact, my brother sings in the trio for "As many as have been baptized...". Both my brothers sing on that recording (it was a bit before my time at St. Vlad's).

I wish you a fruitful Holy Week and Kalo Pascha (soon)!

Dear Father Thomas,

Please know that your pastoral 'two cents' are always appreciated. smile

In Christ,
Alice

P.S. I am quite impressed with your brothers' voices on that recording!
Whenever I have been blessed to hear St. Vladimir's choir in person, I have truly been awestruck.

Alex,

May the Lord God bless you!

Christ is Risen!

I just corresponded with someone at the Chancery and they plan on posting it after Pascha. So, I'll keep you informed. (I thought I had a paper copy, but didn't...)

Dear Michael,
It was not in the least my intention to chastise you - only to explain what might have caused the problem which you happened upon.

Dear Alice,
The power of bi-location might make life simpler sometimes. On the other hand, it might make life complicated much more frequently!

Dear Father Thomas,
Thanks for your contribution, which I much appreciate. Naturally, it is necessary to exercise some pastoral discretion. I was once visiting the USSR (back when there still was one) and as I was conversing with the parish priest in a particular parish, a sacristan came up. I couldn't quite hear what the sacristan said, but the parish priest answered "all right, she may come to Confession". I almost fell off my chair. Noticing this, the parish priest explained that it had to do with a parishioner who was suffering from a severe case of scruples, to the point that it had become necessary for her own spiritual good to require that she receive a blessing before going to Confession, or she would present herself several times a day. [No, I am not making this up, although for obvious reasons I don't care to give information as to where this happened or who the priest was.]

In jurisdictions where the Bishop would be willing, it would make sense to hold a general absolution on Holy Saturday night, before the Procession, while instructing the faithful that this assumes that everyone has been to Confession during Great Lent and that anyone who is conscious of some serious sin may still receive Holy Communion on Pascha but should seek out the priest for a regular individual Confession in the next fortnight or so.
