I find one's religious affiliation irrelevant. Your world view will come through your writing. I have found very few peoplewhose religious affiliation is completely consistent with their own faith.

Dear Mark, Funny you should ask that on a thread begun by our "deziner." My wife is a "deziner" in her own Rite, as you know . An interior designer, that is. We start the move one week from today. I can't believe it! And some people say there is no God . . .! Alex

I love irony.
If I understand correctly, the Eastern Church (whoever that is) considers the Byzantine Church to be out of communion because of their relationship with Rome. Is that correct?
It sounds like a really bad soap opera, but perhaps our next great reality TV series.

But if you're really seeking to understand all the issues surrounding the Catholic (Eastern and Roman) and Orthodox Churches, the truth is, there is no Cliff Notes version. The history of the Church is long and complicated. To thoroughly understand it all takes lots of reading (books, not just websites), prayer, and reflection. I hope you will take the time to delve deeper; I know you will find it's worth the effort. God Bless you, Jenny

Poosh BaShlomo, YuhannonYou live in the same city and you haven't met Alex yet??? How can that be? We here in Kansas are discussing making a pilgrimage to Toronto just sit at his feet and absorb his wisdom! Seriously, I wish you would meet him if for no other reason than doing it for those of us who can't...then let us know if he is really as funny and entertaining in person as he seems to be on here! Don

Dear Yuhannon and Don, Now look "Yu" We'll have to get together for lunch one day and that is all. I would love to meet Father Don as well. "Wisdom?" As Chuck Connors would say, "Ya gotta be kiddin'!" Alex

Shlomo Alex, You must know some Lebs, the "Yu" joke is one that my family has been saying to me since I was a kid. Not only should we get Fr. Don in on this, but Fr. Richard of St. Elias lurks here also (he is the one that pointed this sight out to me). There are so many Torontonians on here that is why I was asking if any were interested in forming a Society of St. John Chrysostrom. Now the only question is do we eat bland, Oh I mean hearty Ukie food, or do we go with spicey Leb food . Dear Friends,
I agree most heartily with what Jenny has written. This is the "honest-to-God truth"... there are no "Cliff Notes" or easy answers. Jenny has laid out the path that must be travelled if one even wants to begin to understand the division between East and West, let alone to fully understand it. Any attempt to reduce this to easy answers will inevitably end with the seeker believing in a fiction. I know, I tried to do this for years.
As for the doctrine of Papal Infallibillity. I think it is a hard question to answer right now (hence the lack of replies). A believing Eastern Catholic would not be quick to say he out-right rejects the doctrine. But at the same time, we would not jump to affirm it for fear of being misunderstood as supporting Latin Scholastic excesses. I think it is safe to say we are waiting for our theologians and those of the Latin Church to come up with an expression of the Papal office which is consistent with both the Latin and Eastern traditions. This will take time. Untill then we can speculate on how we think this will happen (which might be helpful or unhelpful). But we do this knowing whatever solution we propose is pre-mature and insufficient to solve the complicated problems involved with the issue at hand. So on this issue we live with ambiguity praying for a solution to come in God's good time.
Trusting in Christ's Light,
Wm. Der-Ghazarian

I would like to invite all or any of you to another bb that I am involved in. It is a Christian board but is not associated with any particular group. It is meant for Christians from all walks all of life to dialog. I know there are a few EO's, RCC, Reform, Calvinists, Baptists, Agnostics, Lutheran and the list goes on. Your presence and perspective would be appreciated.
