Stuart,

You are probably right about Bishop John. He did comment that married priests are, in this sense, the same as married deacons -- expected to provide for their own livelihood. In point of fact, there are several priests who have to support themselves as their parish is unable to provide for them at this time.

Vasili,

Fortunately, the Melkites have eliminated most of their Latinizations. The few that remain are, IMO, reasonable because they are in the form of personal devotions, not theology or liturgical practice.

Thus, we have retained that Orthodox mindset, at least as well as most mainstream Orthodox.

Edward, deacon and sinner

Most of the Melkite parishes I have visited are much more canonically Orthodox than many Greek Orthodox parishes, or even, for that matter, some OCA parishes. They do not have pews, for instance, or organs, as is all too common among the Greeks.

As for personal devotions, how you pray in private is nobody's business by yours and God's. I know a good many Orthodox who say the Rosary, and I know quite a few Roman Catholics who say the Jesus Prayer. Machts nicht to me.

"It is intimated, and I expect to learn more as I get into the doctrinal and eclessiastical lessons of the class, that Byzantine Catholicism is true orthodox (please note small "O") catholicism and that the West has deviated."

Dear Ed,
could you please elabotate a little on how the west has "deviated"?

Dear Brother Ed,
May God bless you and keep you on the wonderful journey of life. I am very familiar with the strong similiarities of your church and my church. Of course, our prayers are the same. Unfortunately, we cannot be in communion with your aunt Rome. The reasons are many and have been stated numerous times. I wish you God's luck as well as His mercy.
