Does anyone know if Jordanville is still offering classes in reading? This very issue, how to read the epistle, was discussed, as someone who had been once told me.

Gaudior, who suggests that may be a place to start

I have the same and more training than you do in Counterpoint and ear training. Not to sound prideful but the truth remains.
Is there a gremlin for "I'm not worthy?"

Sadly, Hal, not on this board...

Try a prostrating smilie (after sunset, as, we can't be doing prostrations on Sunday, now, can we?)

Gaudior, in jest

You guys have taken the simplest question and an accidental ? mark and turned it into a pride for all. Notice it was Hal who first out of no where brought up his "training." But anyway I hope the administrator will close this topic because I have gotten enough information to properly serve Holy Mother Church and this is turning very rude and unChrist like. Benedicat te Deus!

This was all a misunderstanding over a typo. We need Alice to get in here and restore peace and good will, as only she can do. smile By the way, I heard Michael chant today, and he really does have a beautiful voice.

Michael,

I hope you do not interpret my supplying a "We're not worthy" emoticon as any slight against you...It was meant for a joke, not to show taking of sides in any way.

Gaudior, who begs forgiveness for any hurt caused you

I would, of course, hasten to mention that it was Placido over there who somehow, out the clear blue, came up with the notion that someone was suggesting that a massive conspiracy to do something un-Byzantine was in the works.

I responded to Mike's inquiry with nothing but the best intentions.

When my suggestion was mocked, I felt that I needed to justify my background in order to be taken seriously on the issue.

Never, ever did I suggest that Mike was an inferior musician to me or anybody else. All I wanted to tell him is not to worry about notation and to trust his ears.

This was met with an unprovoked ad hominum attack. When a subsequent attempt was made to lighten the mood, I (and others) were accused of being "rude and unChrist like."

As for the alleged "typo," I could go into cross-examination mode on this issue, but this peacock obvisouly is not worth any more of my time.

So, with that, I take my leave of this topic.

djs, thanks for the link. That's what I was describing.

It never ceases to amaze me how beautifully rich and diverse is the musical tradition of Rus'. But I've never heard of "sinodal" chant (Selection 07)...I hope that's not referring to the moral state of the singer or clergy... smile
