Dear Vasili,

I agree with you about the need for a "orthodox" approach to the canons (the historical ones, or the new "Code"). "Cognitive dissonance" abounds, often to the destruction of spiritual gifts. While healthy discussion and debate can be stimulating, and educational; God grant us the inner Peace which is Christ's true and Spiritual Gift.

"And then there is ageing, sickness, and death.... ." (Buddhist aphorism.) "Man proposes but God disposes." (Rusyn.)

And then there is the problem of how do we "endure" one another as Byzantines. After all, there is a good possibility I will meet Byzantine Catholics while protesting the slaughter of the unborn; I will meet Byzantines feeding the homeless, immigrants, etc. I will meet Hispanic Byzantines while protesting against Castro. It is inevitable and this fact concentrates the mind. Orthodox or Catholic, Byzantines are joined at the hip and I am very grateful that we have arms instead of baseball bats!

This being a fact and considering the brevity of life and our inevitable lives together, how important it is to clarify your beliefs, convince yourself of just what your faith priorities are and then bury the hatchet and wake-up! Quickly wake-up and move on to a life of service in His Name. But, brother Christian, we Byzantines are forever....joined at the hip! Maybe that is why we get trapped in theological mazes---we are masters of circumambulation!

And then there is the realization that after you wake-up, Peace is Possible.

To all of you who are my fellow reformed Hippies: Peace Baby...Peace!

Stuart,

I have no problem with the "oikonomia" approach. I think that is entirely consistent with the Code and is probably applied in some Western situations as well ("for the salvation of souls").

I also have no problem with _Ad Tuendam Fidem_ either.
