Alex laments "to think this entire situation could be avoided if we used the Slavonic Bible". A valid point. But does Alex mean the Ostrih Bible, or the Bible of Elizabeth Petrovna?

What makes the Catholic Edition "Catholic"? I have a copy of the New Testament RSV-CE from 1965. Appendix 2 is a list of changes in the RSV-CE from the "regular" RSV; it is 4 pages long. One consistent change, for example, is the use of the word "brethren" in the RSV-CE rather than the "brothers" of the RSV. Also, many of the verses that the RSV places in footnotes and says "Some authorities add..." (making it a pain to read many Scripture readings, especially the 11 Resurrection Gospels!) the RSV-CE includes the verses in the text with a footnote "Some authorities omit..." Perhaps this list of changes is online someplace. Dave

We can use the RSV-CE for private reading, but the lectionary that you have is not currently permitted for LITURGICAL use in the United States. Funny that it is approved for other English-speaking countries, but then that just demonstrates that translations are not so much for clarity as to serve political ends.
I also understand that we are NOT to use any of the translations from any source that have been altered for so-called "inclusivity."
