Dear Liz, Yes, I share your feelings completely. I don't think I'll ever develop a devotion to Merlin, for example ![[Linked Image]](https://www.byzcath.org/bboard/smile.gif) I don't like New Age either. However, I do know converts to Orthodoxy who were formerly New Agers. Interestingly, these people have no trouble relating to the fasting regulations of the Church. They pray and meditate for hours, often with lit candles and special rooms in their homes filled with icons (from Jordanville and Holy Transfiguration Monastery!). ONe of them was drawn to the Church through an icon of Lentz's of Fr. Thomas Merton sitting in the Buddhist lotus position. That's not something that would turn my spiritual crank, but if it brings others toward Christ, hey, we must become "all things to all people." God bless and let me take this opportunity to say how much I appreciate your spiritually inspiring and powerful posts! Alex

+Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory to Him Forever! Angela, I went to take a look at the sanctangeli.org website. Very nice icons!! I like them quite a bit. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.byzcath.org/bboard/smile.gif) I just remembered--you might also try the Printery House: http://www.printeryhouse.org They have some very nice icons that have a bit more western influence, like icons of the Holy Family (one of my favorite things about the Western Church is its great devotion to St. Joseph, but I've found that icons of St. Joseph seem to be quite scarce! It's nice, then, to see ones.) You might check out their website. In addition, I think it's great that you'll get to talk to Mark, who is an iconographer! How neat! Thank you, Alex, for your post! (Liz blushes) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.byzcath.org/bboard/smile.gif) Your comments on this subject have really helped me to see the broader picture...yes, we must be "all things to all people." God will use all kinds of ways (and things) to bring people to Himself and His Divine Son! Thank you again!! God bless everyone, Liz [This message has been edited by Liz (edited 07-27-2001).]

God bless everyone, LizDear Liz, Thanks for reminding me about Printery house. Here in supposedly enlightened Scotland we can buy some of their cards from St Paul's [ sorry the references are all Western but it's not my fault ] but I haven't yet seen any of their Icons over here [ memo Ask/nag them to do something about it] To me the big problem with Sanctiangeli is that all Sr Petra Clare's work is commissioned - not that I have a problem with that, but the affordability is in question for my personal use . Sharon's comment earlier about finding affordable ones certainly applies here. By the way I think I prefer the Eastern influence( and me a Latin too !). Mark has been very helpful , it was useful to be able to contact a writer . He certainly came up with a suggestion that I am kicking myself for not thinking about earlier. He has also provided another site for me to see and my thoughts are beginning to take shape - I will be commissioning an Icon for an Ordination present for one of my former pupils . God Bless Angela

In fact, while i have never read her writings, Anthony Dragani has and he has commented some of it is very offensive to Eastern Christians, especialy her views on married priests.
2. Mr. Lenz and Natural Bridges have some very heterodox icons. Some of his work is very good and orthodox, while others are just New Age wackiness. He made an "icon" of Merlin of Authurian legend. What is that all about? I don't know how comfortable anyone is supporting a group with such heterdox nonsense, but that is the individuals decision. They do have some western saints I haven't seen elsewhere. Just use discernment.
In Christ, Lance, deacon candidate Amen Lance! I wil not purchase any of his so called icons. Better to get someone to paint one for you. As to Dame Julian and being offensive to Orthodox, you have to look at that in the context of her life. She was after all a Latin Christian probably had no knowledge of the Eastern Church and her views on priesthood where definitely shape by latin theology. From that point of view I would not be too hard on her. I have read h er works and do not find them unorthodox. However that being said, as in all mystical experiences it is good to talk over the work with someone who is familiar with the spiritual life and has a sound background in theology. So read away, but as Lance said: "with caution." We wouldn't want you to make a shipwreck of your faith. Stephanos Unworthy Servant of Christ

Reading was certainly done with caution. My Director permitted only 15 pages/month and sometimes that was hard going ! We had very interesting discussions and I certainly have found it profitable. I enjoy my meetings with him and 3 years on I know how essential that part of my life has become. Fear not - he looks after me. God Bless Angela
