Record Readership!

July 3, 2002 set a new record for The Byzantine Forum. There were over 13,410 page views by 1,510 unique visitors. The normal daily average is currently just over 9,400 page views by just under 1,000 unique readers. Thanks to all of you who make this Forum a success. You have created a real Byzantine Cyber-Family and should be proud of your accomplishments.

In other news, I've decided to delay the software upgrades until August. The company that provides the software for The Byzantine Forum has just announced a new software release later this month that will allow for speedier access. I want to be able to see it in action and make sure that all the bugs are worked out before installing it here.

Also, the redesign of an interactive version of www.byzcath.org is well underway but it will be several months until it is ready to be made public.

I probably will sound like an idiot here, but what is meant by interactive version? Isn't it already interactive?

Vicki,

Sorry for the webmaster lingo. The interactivity is mostly from the posting standpoint. It will be much easier to post news and events listing without having to manually modify and upload html files. There will be Yahoo! style databases for easy listing of parishes, links and etc. Now if only I can free up a few months to finish it up!

Well that has eased my mind - I was thinking of the possibility of chatting with some of our more vocal family members - and beginning to panic :p

So after all I need not have rushed with my reminder to people to pass on any petitions they would like me to take to Lourdes [ hint hint - I go on July 13 and you must let me print them out beforehand ]. Ah well you lives and learns wink

Congratulations on the results of all you hard work keeping everything working dear Administrator.

Dear Administrator,

Congratulations to you and to the hot posters on this forum!

I know you don't like to gloat over all this so I won't either.

You provide an invaluable internet service that truly does build up our Church while allowing for Catholics and Orthodox of all traditions to come together and learn from each other in the spirit of frankness, inquiry and Christian love.

Most of the time, that is . . . smile

Many Years to our Administrator!

Alex

Many years, esteemed Administrator!

I am amazed to hear about the readership. I think we sometimes underestimate the value of a forum such as this one.

For isolated Byzantines, who have moved from their original parishes, the community here is a vital and immediate link.

Also... for those who are in parishes or missions, where there is, sometimes, not much in the way of adult education, bible study, discussion groups etc., this forum can provide a place to discuss ideas, and share hopes for the future of our Church.

There is great interest in the Byzantine Church outside of our Church, among Romans, Protestants and others, who look to us to speak for the tradition of the east, and offer insights which come from our own rich spiritual life, and our eastern theology and liturgy. They want to hear what we have to say, and the read ideas here which are challenging and (I hope) help them.

I am glad to hear about the 'reach' of this forum to those within our Eastern Churches, to those of other Churches, and to those without a Church home.

It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit can use, even this 'internet' forum and community, to accomplish God's will, in our Church, and for all.

Elias

Dear Administrator,

Who are the "unique posters?"

What makes them "unique"? smile Or is this another one of those terms that my great gaps in computer knowledge cannot fathom?

This forum is really a unique one in the WWW. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have learned much from it. I encourage everyone to tell as many people about it so that many people will come to know the Lord in the special and unique Byzantine way.

God Bless!

Dear John,

Happily, God broke each of our molds when He made us!

To prevent mirrors from cracking, next time you look into one, don't preface the event with words like, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the greatest Byzantine of them all?" smile

Alex,

I suspect you are as unique as it gets! biggrin

The term "unique visitor" is computer-ese for specific, individual computers. In other words, 1,510 different computers accessed The Byzantine Forum and read 13,410 pages yesterday.

Dear Administator,

Thank you for the clarification that it refers to the computer used and not the people. So that if two people used the same computer, they would together be "unique" and if Alex used two different computers, he would be "Two Unique"? biggrin

But we know that!

Dear Administrator,

Congratulations on maintaining a site where so many choose to come. A job well done!

I suspect that there are many who come here and read who, like many here, are uniquely two-gether and have much to share! Join in!

It seems to me that Alex can serve as a model for being uniquely two-gether, no?

He must be coming and going at the same time to be working toward 4000 posts! biggrin

Congratulations to all of the members of the family that is our cyber community!

Ad multos annos!

Steve

Dear Esteemed Administrator:

Allow me to add my personal congratulations and best wishes on this momentous accomplishment. It proves the great worth of this forum and denotes the professional, intellectual and productive manner in which it is operated. You have always insisted on the proper decorum, spirit of decency and above all a Christian demeanor and the fruits are very evident.

Many Years to you and all of our forum participants. Na Mnohaya i blahaya l'ita!
