[I would enjoy meeting you in person when I come to St. Vladimir's this fall.
In Christ,
anastasios (you'll have to ask for Dustin though as that's my secular and non-internet name)]
You got a date my friend! After Liturgy we will sit under the trees with some pierogi, spanikopita, shish kabob, and baklava and discuss religion. Since you will be a struggling seminary student the treat will be mine.
P.S. Don't try so hard to be super fair to everyone. Just give your honest opinion. You are, after all, entitled to it. This Forum is designed for the purpose of an exchange of ideas and opinions. It would be boring as hell if everyone agreed with each other. And, I along with a lot of others, would probably leave in search of something else.

One more point: yes, you should call Episcopalians who so desire "AngloCatholics", you should call Liberal Catholics Catholics, you should call us Byzantine Catholics and not Uniates or Byzantine-Rite RC's. Why? Not for any theological reason, but rather because it is POLITE and COURTEOUS. You wouldn't go up to a black person and say, "you're a negro, becauase that's what webster's dictionary says the technical term for you race is!" would you?
In Christ,
anastasios Exactly. Amen. Axios

To Anastasios and Dustin:
I'll see you both at Orthodox Ed Day at St. Vlad's on the First Saturday in October (of course, it is always then). Some tips, the kibbe from the Antiochians is Great (a shameless commercial if ever there was one), and the Greek Baklava is OK, too. The Serbs do some interesting Balkan cooking, and I'm addicted to the OCA Pierohi. As a personal favor, check out the OCMC booth in the tent.
For those whose celebrated Pascha, Christos Anesti, and for those in the Great Lent, Hagios Ionnes Chysostomos would want us to just keep the Faith, Baby. Even if you just jump in at the 11th hour, the Party's Coming.
In Christ,
Three Cents

Dear Orthoman,
Warranted or unwarranted, I have always admired the ascetical discipline of the Orthodox!
There were (and still are?) monasteries in Russia where the Psalter is read in Church continuously 24 hours a day.
In the Way of the Pilgrim, the pilgrim (actually an Orthodox priest, as one scholar has recently demonstrated as reported in the Paulist Press' publication of this work) walks toward such a monastery where the only obligation is to read the Psalter for four hours straight daily as part of one's allotted portion.
The practice of reading and re-reading the Psalter, the Gospels and the other riches of the Orthodox Church is a most important part of Eastern spirituality that I have only scratched the surface of.
God bless you and all you Orthodox Christians!
Alex

Oh no--am I suffering from split personality?? :-0
Just kidding! Three Cents, my full name is Dustin Roger Anastasios Athanasios Hudson--Anastasios and Dustin are one and the same! I tend to post on this forum as anastasios, but on the "other" forum I was Dustin Anastasios. So some who came from "over there" still call me Dustin, which is why you might have been confused!

anastasios

OK Dustin Roger Anastasios Athanasios Hudson - How about you, Three Cents, myself (OrthoMan) and whoever else from this forum who will be there plan to meet in front of the OCMC booth after Liturgy? We can all get together for good food and to get to know one another on a more personal level. Put a face to a name so to speak.
And, may I also take this opportunity to congratulate you on your acceptance at St Vlad's.

Sounds wonderful, OrthoMan! I will email you my picture closer to the event so you know for whom to look!

Thank you very much! I am very happy about all of this, and can't wait!

FWIW, I think the Latinizations are horrible, and except for 100 year old parishes back east with alot of oldtimers in them (it might be too traumatic to remove them), should not be tolerated. I was horribly dissapointed at my first visit to a BC parish-I was expecting the same thing as I was used to in the OCA, only with different bishops commemorated.Maybe if there had been more authenticity, I might have gone over, but it was disquiting.
PS I know some of you will say that the GOA and Antiochians have pews and so forth, but they are most certainly not the norm, and only in America.
PPS I know some of you will also point out Carpatho-Russian/Ukrainian Latinizations among the Orthodox from those regions, but the OCA out here is rather traditional, and there is a big difference from, lets say, New York to San Fransisco. There needs to be more Russian Catholic parishes, and asap!
PPPS Finally, I know about many subtle Latinizations, like St. Seraphim and the rosary, which I don't have a problem with, but those are personal devotions, and not really appropiate to the liturgical life of Byzantine Christianity. MK
