Dear Friends,

In addition to being accused of flirting, I am also charged with responsibility to look after our parish church open house next week.

I'm preparing a sheet explaining the Eastern features of our church and its history as an RC church.

What else should I include?

Speak now or . . . wink

Alex,

You should change your alias to "RC Orthodox Catholic."

Dear Cantor Joseph,

I don't know why you said that - the tour involves a comprehensive history of the building as such.

I apologise for anything I've said here to upset you.

But I take personal offence at what you've said and do hereby withdraw from this Forum until such time as the matter is addressed and explained by you.

Alex's contributions are enjoyable and worthwhile; it would be a shame to lose him. I haven't the foggiest notion why anybody is calling him "flirtatious". Me, I carried on a brief flirtation with some Chinese barbecued duck last night before inviting the duck into closer unity - it was delicious. Incognitus

Alex,

Wow!

I was just teasing you. You mentioned the history of your parish as an "RC" Church. I thought you were trying to stir the pot ... as only Alex knows how with puns and inuendos.

Who's accusing you of flirting? You attach winking graemlins on all your posts. wink I must have missed something. Was there a flirt thread somewhere where you got accused?

I apologize if my post made a bad landing on deck. Phew!

Dear Cantor Joseph,

I apologise to you, Sir, and it was I who reacted when I should not have.

I guess the job-hunt et alia is getting to me.

Alex,

As I stated in another post: I am unemployed too.

Life is tough, man. And then you move on ...

But never give up on those things you like to do. Job-hunting is one thing; having no fun is another. Don't confuse them, OK? [slap, slap, slap]

Now, continue typing, silly you. We like your winking graemlins ... wink

Don't worry. Be happy!

Alex, when I give tours of our church, I always try to say and repeat how everyone is welcome, what to do during communion, and I try to remember to invite the folks to something in the future. I include the history and so I say something abou the future, i.e., the next adult rel. ed. class, or the next liturgy, or whatever event so they will feel welcome to come AGAIN.

biggrin

P.S. I had no idea the happy face icon with the wink meant flirting. I thought it was for joking or for making puns.

Last November we had our open house/bazaar. I gave tours of the church; We had a picutre of Patriarch LUBOMYR in a frame in clear view. I also put our icon print of our new martyrs on an analoy in the front near the tetropad.

We were also given permission to display a set of vestments on a dress form. That works well, except for the cuffs.

We also showed a video about the Eastern Catholic Churches produced by the Parma Byzantine Eparchy. I also explained the symbolism of the Iconostas; then we had Q & A.

It is also nice to get icon holy cards to pass out for people to take home.

What do you think of writing a one page FAQ's sheet?

Hope it goes well!

Alex,
Might be a bit too much, but how about mentioning the hardships that the founders of the Parish faced when first trying to establish the parish? I know first hand that many RC's, in addition to not knowing anything about the Eastern Church, also have no idea of how Eastern Catholics have been treated in the past by Roman Bishops, especially when trying to establish an Eastern parish.

BTW, I don't think you are a flirt...I think you are a very wonderful, warm hearted person who happens to like to wink alot... wink

What was that - << wonderful, warm hearted ..>

I think incredibly kind and generous have also to be added to those adjectives

Dear Friends,

I've completed my one-sheet thingy and it has been accepted . . .

I began by mentioning that the first Mass in the area was celebrated in 1641 by St Jean de Brebeuf when he travelled through there on his way to the Niagara area.

I then mentioned that the RC community built the second oldest church in the Toronto area in 1847 which was, in 1972, sold to the Ukrainian Catholics.

I mention the iconostasis and relate this to the "rood screens" of England. Also the icons and our Lady of Zhirovits and the pilgrimage to her.

I also mention St Volodymyr and his descendant Queen Elizabeth II - for the loyalist visitors wink

And that the church always has its doors open in welcome to one and all to share with them their religious and cultural traditions.

Alex
