Greetings in Christ, dearest brother Francisco.

Fr Barnabas was a very unique character who managed to combine the best of his former Welsh spirituality with Orthodoxy. He took the evangelical zeal of Welsh Nonconformity with its poetic richness and blended it into his Orthodoxy. His spiritual journey was, indeed, a strange one, but it was one which left an enduring mark on the Welsh spiritual landscape.

Sadly, Mynachdy Sant Elias is vanishing under a jungle and is little used. One sad aspect of Fr Barnabas's life was that he set many people on the monastic path, but drove them away by his Celtic temprament. He wasn't the most flexible person.

Everyone has their own memories of him, but the memories of breadcrumb soup remain - as strong the Greek cheese he served on St Elias day.

May his memory be eternal.
Mark, monk and sinner.

Bless me a sinner, Father Mark,

In case I forget, Happy Dewi Sant Day which is coming up (on the Old Calendar).

I always wear a leek on that day and have an icon of him.

Alex
