Dear Chtec,

I think the parish is going ahead with a possible pear lapel pin with your emblem on it.

We will also be planting some pear trees by the outdoor shrine with the icon that is in my avatar as well.

Thanks again.

Any photographs available of the event?

Dear Michael,

Forgive me, but I just saw your post - I'll ask my daddy-in-law about photographs when he gets back from his sabbatical in Florida.

The dream the woman had about our icon is now being very seriously considered as a possible miracle - in any event, it has had a marvellous effect.

As you know, we were trying to get a prayer association started.

We began with me producing a very bureaucratic-sounding document about rules and regulations etc.

But now, they are going ahead and just enrolling people and the association will probably take-off first thing in the new year (Julian Calendar).

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

Hi Alex!

Here's another thought, why not get the pear trees and have them blessed on Rusadla and then planted by the prayer group?

I know a couple of parishes that buy trees and plants for Rusadla and then plant them on the parish grounds...

Dear Mark,

Yes, when I first suggested that last year, they thought I was crazy or something.

But, this year, the parish secretary, who hails from Ukraine, made the same suggestion during our meeting.

It was greeted with applause and I got up and said, "What a brilliant idea! How lucky we are to have this wonderful lady!"

So they are going ahead with it.

It's not what you know in our parish, but where you come from . . . smile

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

Hi Alex!

Join the club!!!

I'll get you a membership application and a T-shirt too!

It's the same way with my parish mens club. If I make the suggest, nothing happens. If I give it to the President and he recommends it, EVERYONE is behind it.

For example, I suggested that the mens club sell potted flowers to decorate the church for Christmas and then let the people either take them home or leave them. Nothing happened and the idea was scrapped.

Last year, gave the SAME IDEA to the president of the mens club and he suggested it. The club was all for it!

We got over 60 pointsettias donated. Our church looked like a greenhouse! Our priest was a little miffed 'cause he did not get to buy his usual 12 flowers and pocket the rest of the money but, hey, who cares! The church was GORGEOUS!!!!

What size T-shirt do you need???

Dear Sarum,

Will so do!

I've run into a bit of a snag with our parish committee - no one in the chosen leadership wants to do anything.

We had our first meeting and I was assigned certain tasks - which I fulfilled the very next day and e-mailed all concerned.

Haven't heard from anyone about anything just yet - do you think two months is long enough of a grace period?

I guess I"ll have to report to the "big boss man" or my father-in-law when he gets back . . .

I'll be in touch!

Dear Friends,

Just an update on what's been going on with our Icon and the pilgrimage associated with it.

I was going to do a translation of the Orthodox akathist to Our Lady of Zhirovits, but that has proven unadviseable . . .

I could easily change the one or two spots where there are "anti-uniate" sentiments in it.

But the real issue, as it turns out, has to do with the inclusion of the role of St Josaphat in the icon's history. That would require some major restructuring of the akathist and I'm not comfortable doing that with an Orthodox liturgical piece.

So the standard Akathist to the Mother of God will do just fine, and copies will be printed together with the Paraclisis and the standard Canon for Icons of the Mother of God with "Zhirovits" included.

The icon that is in my avatar, thanks to the Administrator, is our icon and it is now EVERYWHERE in the parish, on the bulletin, and in people's homes etc.

We need to form a prayer group and that is moving forward too.

A blessed feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe to everyone!

Alex
