A Latin Patriarch was installed in Jerusalem when the city fell to the Crusaders in 1099 and the Kingdom of Jerusalem was created.

Even after the fall of Jerusalem (or its liberation depending upon your point of view) a Latin Patriarch continued to exist (resident in Acre) Palestine until that last Crusader stronghold fell in 1291.

One of these (Saint Albert of Jerusalem) wrote the Carmelite Rule.

Adrian Fortescue's piece on Jerusalem After 1291 [newadvent.org] , in the old Catholic Encyclopedia, has an essentially accurate description of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem's history.

The list at Wikipedia [en.wikipedia.org] of those who held the title and their dates of office appears to be reasonably accurate on comparison to others.

Does this movie even mention the help the Armenians gave to the Crusaders? I'd be very surprised if they did. Was the movie even worth seeing?

I saw the movie, as a whole it was good, very gory though. But it was filled with inaccuracies and of course they wanted to make the church look foolish and the view they portrayed of the muslims as respecting chrisitanity oh well that is another story.

Getting your history lesson on the Crusades from that movie is much like getting a lesson in Roman history from Gladiator (which I enjoyed thoroughly). Now, I don't expect Hollywood to put out historically accurate movies, but I do hope to at least see a decent yarn, and with Ridley Scott I hope to see something resembling intellectual substance in the movie

My husband and I had a young friend who was convinced that the legend of Hercules was what he saw on the TV show starring Kevin Sorbo. We could not convince him to pick up a book on mythology and actually read the original legend.

It is sad that Hollywood is rewriting both classical literature and historical fact, and our future generations will not have an accurate picture because they think if they saw it on TV it's the truth.

The trouble with holywood producing these inaccurate movies is that is what people will believe. And yes I believe it is an intentional deception to get their agenda across.
I must say i did enjoy the movie, but fortunately I had the brain to be able to pic through it, most today sad to say dont.

I can see perhaps the need for a little embelishing to make the story exciting and interesting, I cannot see the need to falsify history to do it.

That is sad that a movie that had so much potential failed miserably. I love history and its a shame they messed up, but I'll still go see it anyways just to laugh at the inaccurate stuff.

Warning from a medieval historian who has had access to the production notes on this film--Kingdom of Heaven is COMPLETELY INACCURATE. Its portrayal of the crusading ethos is ridiculous. Don't believe a minute of it. I could elaborate a lot more but I'm way too busy right now. Please pray for me.
