Tragedy for a priest and his wife - 05/05/09 03:50 PM
I just came across this tragedy on another forum. Kyrie Eleison! :
Please keep Father Gregory and his family in your prayers.
Dear all,
Christ is risen!
Please keep Father Gregory Waynick, his Presvytera and two other children in your prayers, as well as for the repose of the soul of Joshua, their 20 year old son who died in a fire at their home on Sunday. Father serves at Saint Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Mooresville NC, they just transferred to the Parish within a year or so.
Here is a news article on the circumstances.
A Mooresville man died Sunday after running back into his burning house in an attempt to save his dog.
Joshua Waynick, 20, of 104 Wildiris Lane died at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Neighbors told authorities Waynick was outside when they first spotted smoke coming from the rear of the house. Waynick said the family dog was still inside.
He ran back inside to try to rescue the dog, said Iredell County Assistant Fire Marshal David Souther.
A neighbor called 911 and fire personnel from Lake Norman, Mt. Mourne, Shepherds and Mooresville fire departments responded to the scene, which is off Brawley School Road.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure and light smoke from the front, Souther said.
Waynick went into the house, firefighters searched and found him near the front door.
He was transported to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where he later died. The dog also died in the fire.
No one else was injured in the fire.
Please keep Father Gregory and his family in your prayers.
