I've been doing some reading about the persecution of religion during the Soviet era, and came across this interesting painting by Ilya Glazunov.

What a hateful scene.
The crucifix with the Orthodox Cross is very odd. Is this just a metaphor of some kind or is there something I don't know about?

I wondered about the same thing. I guess it's just the atrists interpretation?

I can only imagine how many times real situations similar to the painting actually occured. The suppression of the church was brutal, and I bet the painting isn't too far off.
