I saw on the Typikon list that you went to the University of Wilmington, which made me realize that (if I am associating you with the right person) we may have met many years back through a mutual friend, now Fr. Timothy. Back then, I was the kid that painted Tim's icons.

Fr. Parthenios if it helps any, I can tell you he still :rolleyes: debates and corrects. (He has such a wonderful gift) In chat the other week I wrote to someone (something like) the Lord said in Scripture, not by power, not by might, but by my Spirit says the Lord. He let me know that was not correctly stated! He knew I was just trying to get a point across, but wanted to get his point in. So debate - yes he does, nothing like a great Roman Redneck to keep you on your toes. Don't you just lub em!

In all honesty Jason has such a wonderful knowledge of the Scriptures and communicates them so easily to everyone.

Yes, you're quite right.

Tim (now Fr. Timothy) began the University of Delaware right before I graduated. And I went to the monastery, and he to the seminary after graduation.

I think you and I met once at St. Tikhon's, maybe when camp was going on in the Summer of 98. Several from our parish, including Fr. Andrew Diehl were there on that trip. I seem to remember Tim introducing me to you and a few other friends.

I hear that a lot of good stuff has been going on at St. Tikhon's. Really good professors and new buildings.

Please send my greetings to Fr. Timothy and ask his blessings. It's been a year or two since we last spoke.

Yes, Jason and I have had quite an ongoing conversation over the years spanning every conceivable topic (though always returning to "religion").

We've known each other since Kindergarten and have been best friends since about 6th grade.

If it weren't for his picking up books (at that time The Hardy Boys) and reading them in the evening when we went with his grandparents and parents to their cabin--thus leaving me bored to tears and "fending for myself"--I probably would have never had enough initiative to crack the pages of a book.

An honest confession is that in 5th grade I faked a book review on a 250-page book on a German WWII fighter pilot--I read the cover and looked at all the pictures. If it weren't for Jason, I might still be doing that!

What really got me hooked into reading for enjoyment was when Jason had me read Tolkien. I breezed through The Hobbit, went quickly through the Fellowship of the Ring, got bogged down in The Two Towers, and (at that time, 8th grade) never read The Return of the King.

But, after that experience I loved to read and kept it up. In fact, I might never have become Orthodox, if it weren't for the latent curiosity that reading created in me.
