Kyiv – Following a recent decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), the UGCC Committee for Christian Unity is to launch an ecumenical and interchurch ministry to help clergy and laity of the UGCC carry out All-Ukrainian and international ecumenical programs. ugcc.org.ua posted the news on 28 August 2007.

Ihor Shaban, long-time coordinator of interdenominational and interchurch matters at the Patriarchal Administration of the UGCC in Kyiv, has been appointed head of the Committee.

“One of the key goals of the Committee will be to organize studies, seminars and trainings for priests and laypersons of the UGCC, which will facilitate greater openness to common prayers, meetings, dialog and experience sharing, particularly with our Orthodox brothers, with whom we have a long common history,” said the newly-appointed head of the Committee.
