Bucharest— The Romanian Patriarchate declared the re-establishment of three eparchies of the Bessarabian Metropolitanate in October 2007 a legitimate act of restoration of justice and protection of the Romanian identity, reports Interfax-religion agency. RISUs Ukrainian-language web page posted this story on 28 February 2008.

“The legal renewal of these eparchies within the canonical territory of the Autonomous Bessarabian Metropolitanate was primarily conditioned by the establishment by the Moldovan Metropolitanate, canonically dependent on the Moscow Patriarchate, of four eparchies (Tiraspol and Dubossary, Kahul and Komrat, Yedinetsk and Brychansk, Beltsk and Falesti) in order to prevent the development of the Bessarabian Metropolitanate," says a report posted on the official site of the Romanian Church.
