CWN - Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and Greek Orthodox Patriarch John Yazigi of Antioch have called for a peace agreement in Syria that would protect the “independence and territorial integrity” of that nation while ensuring “equal rights and opportunities for its citizens.”

The two Orthodox leaders released their appeal as Patriarch John Yazigi concluded a visit to Moscow. The AsiaNews service notes that many leaders of the Orthodox world have been making visits to Russia to speak with Patriarch Kirill, who is increasingly seen as a bulwark of defense for Christianity against the encroachment of Islam and of secularism.
