CWN - Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros has expressed concern that demonstrations in the US against anti-Christian violence in Egypt could have a negative effect.

The demonstrations, organized by Copts living in the US, could "cause serious damage to Egypt," the Coptic prelate argued, suggesting that the publicity surrounding events such as a White House sit-in might spark tensions between Egyptian officials and the country's Christian minority.

"We, in Egypt, know how to address our problems," Pope Tawadros said. He suggested that Egyptians who left the country several years ago should heed the pleas of those still living there.

Seventh Ecumenical Council

O Christ our God, You are most glorious, * for You established our Fathers as lights upon the earth * and through them led us to the true faith. * O greatly Compassionate One, glory to You! (Troparion, Tone 8)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

The Son Who shone forth ineffably from the Father * was born two-fold in nature. * Beholding Him, we do not refuse the image of his form, * but piously depicting it, we honor it faithfully. * Therefore the Church, holding fast to the true faith, * kisses the icon of the incarnation of Christ. Wisdom from the Church Fathers

First of all it must be understood that it is the duty of all Christians - especially of those whose calling dedicates them to the spiritual life - to strive always and in every way to be united with God, their creator, lover, benefactor, and their supreme good, by Whom and for Whom they were created. This is because the center and the final purpose of the soul, which God created, must be God Himself alone, and nothing else - God whom Whom the soul has received its life and its nature, and for Whom it must eternally live.
