Nun Killer Confesses
LVIV, UKRAINE, Jun 14, 02 (RISU.org.ua) – On 8 June 2002, the police arrested a 20-year-old resident of west-central Ukrainian Vinnytsia, suspected of raping and killing Sister Anna (Hlova), who was found dead earlier that day in Vinnytsia's Church of the Protection of the Mother of God. Upon arrest, he admitted his guilt immediately. The suspect used to work part time at the construction of the unfinished church. The news was reported by the Vinnytsia region weekly newspaper “Channel 33” on 12 June 2002.

The Vinnytsia police searched all possible places where the suspect might have shown up, including city markets and the train station, where they eventually apprehended him. The man did not deny the allegations and admitted his guilt immediately. He told the police that he raped the nun when the church was empty and then strangled her and brought the body to the attic.

Sister Anna Hlova of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary made her perpetual monastic vows on 27 August 2001. She came to Vinnytsia to do missionary work in 1999.

May her fidelity to her faith be rewarded on earth, as it is in Heaven, with her Beatification, a neo-martyr to be sure.

May her sould rest in the eternal light of Abraham's bosom!

I know this city, I know this community, I spent
there some time with Redemptorist Father Ihor Voznyak (now auxiliary Bishop in Lviv) and late
Fr. Bohdan Oryshchuk of blessed memory (he died
in January 1990) in 1989. I visited them later
too. So I am truly shocked.
But, to be frank, not every victim is martyr as well. We Ukrainians often forget about it.

Sincerely,
subdeacon Peter

Petro -

Yes that is true. Perhaps she is not a martyr. I read another article at RISU and a fellow nun professed her as a martyr of "chastity". Perhaps? I don't know. . .

Nun Killer Sentenced To 15 Years
LVIV, UKRAINE, Feb 21, 03 (RISU.org.ua) – On 11 February 2003, the court of appeals in the west-central Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia sentenced 20-year-old Semen Hlushko to 15 years in prison for raping and killing Greek Catholic Sister Anna (Hlova) in the local Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in June 2002.

Hlushko, who used to work part time at the construction of the unfinished church, admitted his guilt immediately upon arrest. However, he later denied the allegations to avoid responsibility. The investigation lasted 5 months and the first court hearing was held on 5 November 2002.

28-year-old sister Anna Hlova of the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate made her perpetual monastic vows on 27 August 2001. Since 1999, she had lived in Vinnytsia, helping the Redemptorist priests in their ministry, working with youth as well as in the juvenile rehabilitation center and teaching children catechism.

How horrible, and how ironic the name of the church in which she was found.

May the Most Holy Theotokos draw Sister Anna ever closer to her bosom of protection in the deepest depths of Heaven.
