I haven't heard anything about it closing. I had lunch with the Friars there in January, and they made no mention of it. This did, however, join with the Wisconsin province of the OFMs, so that there would be more community life and strength in numbers, with the full respect of Byzantine life. When that jointure was made, the province asked the friary to demolish a wing of their old monastery-building so that upkeep would be less, etc.

My priest-friend there mentioned to me that when he joined them when they were first formed, he had hoped to go to the Ukraine to minister behind the Iron Curtain. He expressed, with great zeal, the joy he had of finally fulfilling that desire during a short visit there in the early 90s after the fall of Communism. It was an inspiration to me!

I had heard they built a marvelous chapel with part of the proceeds from the property they sold when they sold the other monastery which was in New Canaan, CT...down the street from the UGCC chancery & seminary in Stamford, CT...
